Today is the dandiya party at my apartment complex. Mom and I wore nice salwar suits and went down to the party. I wore a green colous anarkali suit for the first time. (I know the name because my mom keeps talking about clothes to her friends all the time).
We bought two pairs of dandiya sticks and then mom taught me how to dance with the sticks. Avika and Molu danced with me too. But I dont have a picture because Appa wasnt there to take a picture. He was out exercising 🙁
Mom also bought me some nice clips from the shops nearby. It was all good fun. Everyone said I danced really well. Super fun day!

It’s the Dussera festival season. Amma and I went to temple and prayed to God that all of us keep well always.
Amma says we should always have good health and everything else will be perfect. That’s why she gives me lots of fruits and vegetables always.
We have also moved into a new house, where Smita aunty used to stay earlier. I actually thought we will all be staying together in this house with Smita aunty and her kids, Sneha and Smriti didi…but then Amma told me they won’t be staying with us because they are going to Mumbai. Looks like it’s quite far from here.
I am going to miss Sneha and Smriti didi a lot.

I’m going to Kerala today for my Achachan’s first death anniversary puja. I have been thinking about him everyday and I miss him terribly. My Amma says it’s important to do the puja in Kerala so that he stays happy in heaven. I wish so too, though I want him to come back soon.
I don’t like to fly much and I prefer trains. But we are still going to fly because we don’t have holidays and Appa cant take leave from work. Looks like its ok if I miss school for 2 days. Since it’s for my grandfather I dont mind missing school for 1-2 days.
The puja in my mom’s house in Kerala was all very nice. There were lots of sweets and everyone was smiling and crying at the same time. I think they are all sad that my grandfather is not around. I’m told he’s with God. What I dont understand is, why is God keeping him for so long???
Meanwhile, here’s a picture of me with my grandfather when I was 4 years old.

I have been learning a lot in school these days. My music sir taught me a new rhyme and then we performed this rhyme at the Peace Whispers function in school. Even my Amma and Appa came to watch me sing. I was asked to dress like a Afghani girl for the function. I also learnt a speech about an Afghani art form for the function. Let me see if I remember the rhyme well.
One Two Three Four Five Six Seven Eight…
I believe it’s not too late
Together we can change the world….
Lay the puzzles pieces out
Find out what it’s all about
Together we can change the world…
Can’t do it by myself
So I’m asking for your help
Together we can change the world
Sail past where it’s been charted
Roll your sleeves up
Lets get started
Together we can change the world…
With our hands and with our hearts
We can tell to make a start
Together we can change the world
If we spoke with one voice
Knowing that we have a choice
Together we can change thw world…
My parents were amazed that I managed to learn so many lines. I think it’s my sir who actually spent so much time and made us learn this. We also said, Thank you Sir loudly after the function.

My mother has always been talking about something called Bharatanatyam for quite a while. Honestly, I had no clue what it was. Mom told me it’s some sort of a dance. Then one day a very nice looking lady came home, who, I later realized would become my Bharatanatyam ma’m. I was a little scared to join the class in the beginning. But then, mom told me that Esha, Deepika and Shravani also will join me. Then I knew it was going to be fun.
And it is actually so much fun. I have to go to classes twice a week and ma’m said I will get to wear nice anklets if I dance really well. I’m looking forward to it 🙂
