Star Performer in my class

This is the first time I am being labelled the star performer of my class. Don’t believe me…check out the certificate I recieved.

Though I did overhear my parents talk that this certificate is issued to all students in a class on a rotation basis to motivate the students as well as their parents. But I don’t believe them. What do they know of the sweat and blood I had to shed to get this certificate.

I warned my mother that this was the first of many certificates I am going to get, but my mother only smiled. Sometimes I don’t get her at all.

My mother always feeds me first

It must be a mother’s thing….but my mother chooses restaurants keeping me in mind.

My father would say, lets go here and lets go there….but my mother would say “Will they have something that Rhea will like?”

This is exactly why I was surprised when I was ushered in to Kobe, a Sizzlers place in Ambience Mall yesterday. I was seeing sizzlers for the first time and I almost jumped back hearing the hissing noise. It was as if they were serving a snake!!

Why would any human being eat Sizzlers? This time we went to a sizzlers place and while my father and mother liked it, I didn’t.

I get my own mike

When we had visited Corbet National Park and stayed in Country Inn (sometime around Diwali) I had sung into a mike. Don’t get surprised yet…since it was Diwali we were the only family at Country Inn and the Guitarist bhaiya asked somebody from my family to come forward and sing.

My mother can sing well but my father is a disaster….and to avoid him the embarressment I went forward and sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in the mike for the first time. Since then it became a habit and I did it everyday for the next three days.

Noticing my keen interest, my mother bought be a set of purple mikes. The only problem…now my mother wants me to sing and my father wants me to do stand up comedy. God save!

Watch me behind my purple mike in this video.

My grandfather passed away

The whole of today my parents were in the hospital because last night my grandfather had been admitted to the hospital. He was in the ICU and somebody had to be there always.

My father went to office till 12 noon and after sorting out a few issues, picked me up from school and dropped me home. He then gave me lunch (even as I watched Chota Bheem on Cartoon Network). Once we were done, he left home to be with my mother at the hospital.

While he was giving me lunch, I heard him thank his colleagues for offering to donate blood. Eight of my father’s colleagues had come to the hospital to donate blood. Apparently my grandpa was bleeding from his oesophagus and needed a lot of blood.

I miss my grandfather. I remember asking my father when he will bring my grandpa back. My father didn’t have an answer. I even promised him that I will ask God to make him alright.

At 5.32 pm, he passed away. My mother returned home alone at 7 pm and told my grandma the news. She burst out crying….what more could she do.

I feel so helpless….just hugging my mother and my grandma. I also cried a lot. But I am not able to understand death yet ….maybe that’s why my mother showed me the stars and said my grandpa was in the stars. That’s when I asked my mother: “And the moon? Is he on the moon as well?”

My mother confirmed that yes, he was. She even said from now onwards my grandfather will be speaking to God and will be telling him to give me good drawing books & crayons.

My father didn’t come till I slept off at 9.30 pm….my mother said he was getting some death summary from the hospital and some police documentation as well.

My mother is really upset. I know she gave it her best after my grandfather was diagnosed with Cancer in August 2010…..but she couldn’t save him.

This is the first death I am experiencing.

Independence day, Karan Johar style

Posted: August 15th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: My Firsts | Tags: , , , | Comments Off on Independence day, Karan Johar style

Today in our apartment complex there was Independence day celebration. Generally my father shies away from such social gatherings. He compares himself to the Friends character Chandler and says: “I am like Chandler. Funny. But gets uncomfortable in social situations.”

But my mother forced my father also to join in the celebrations saying: “We have to get Rhea to enjoy all these. She should grow up a patriot like you.”

When we went down, it was like a Karan Johar movie. It was raining, there was greenery all around (the function was in the park), there was a stage with the National flag as the backdrop, people were waving the Indian flag….my father commented that only Kajol was missing. Apparently, she is my father’s favourite actress.

We witnessed lots of patriotic songs and dances. I wish I grow up fast and learn to perform on stage.

It was raining all along but my mother, my father and I sat under our umbrellas and sat through the whole ceremony. We finished with the National anthem.

Once the anthem was over, my father turned towards me and asked: “So, are you feeling patriotic?” I replied: “I am feeling hungry.”

I don’t know why my parents laughed so hard.
